Private Practice vs. Corporate Dentistry: Why It Matters for Your Dental Care
If you’ve searched for a dentist in Burleson recently, you’ve probably noticed that there are more choices than ever before. What many patients don’t realize is that not all dental offices operate the same way. Some practices are owned and operated by local dentists, while others are part of large corporate organizations that manage dozens or even hundreds of offices across the country.
There are excellent dentists working in both settings, but the overall patient experience can be very different. As someone who has practiced dentistry in Burleson for many years, I’ve had the opportunity to see those differences firsthand. Before opening My Burleson Dentist, I spent eight years practicing at another local office before it was eventually sold to a corporate dental organization. That experience reinforced something I have always believed: dentistry is at its best when it is built around relationships, trust, and personalized care.
At My Burleson Dentist, we are proud to be a locally owned, independent dental practice. We believe patients deserve more than just a place to get their teeth cleaned. They deserve a dental home where they feel heard, respected, and involved in decisions about their care.
Corporate dentistry has become increasingly common throughout Texas and across the country. In these organizations, many business decisions are handled by a central management company. Marketing, staffing, scheduling, purchasing, and financial operations may all be directed from outside the local community. Patients may never notice these behind-the-scenes differences, but they can influence the overall experience inside the office.
A private practice operates differently. The dentist who owns the practice is typically the same dentist treating patients every day. Decisions are made locally by people who live, work, and raise their families in the community. As the owner of My Burleson Dentist, every decision I make is guided by a simple question: “What is best for our patients?” Because we are independent, we have the flexibility to focus on long-term relationships and individualized care rather than corporate objectives or production metrics.
One of the biggest advantages of private practice dentistry is continuity of care. Many patients appreciate seeing the same dentist year after year. Over time, your dentist becomes familiar with your dental history, your concerns, and your goals. Small changes are easier to monitor, treatment plans become more personalized, and trust develops naturally. When patients consistently see the same provider, they often feel more comfortable asking questions and discussing concerns openly.
This relationship-based approach is one of the primary reasons I chose to open My Burleson Dentist. I graduated from Burleson High School and have deep roots in this community. Many of the families I care for today are people I have known for years. Some patients first met me when they were teenagers and now bring their own children to see us. Those relationships are one of the most rewarding aspects of dentistry and something I believe should never be overlooked.
Another difference patients often notice is how treatment recommendations are presented. At My Burleson Dentist, we practice what I call “show and tell dentistry.” Too often, patients are told they need treatment without fully understanding why. We take a different approach. Using digital x-rays, intraoral photography, and modern technology, we show patients exactly what we see. If there is a cavity, a cracked tooth, bone loss, or another concern, we explain it in a way that makes sense and provide visual evidence whenever possible.
Our goal is not to pressure patients into treatment. Instead, we believe patients should understand their condition and be involved in the decision-making process. Once we explain the findings, we discuss the available options, including the advantages and limitations of each. Every patient has unique goals, priorities, and financial circumstances. The right treatment plan for one patient may not be the right treatment plan for another. We believe informed patients make better decisions, and we want every patient to feel confident about their care.
Being locally owned also means being locally accountable. I don’t answer to a corporate office in another state. I answer to the patients and families who trust me with their care. My reputation is built one patient at a time, and that reputation matters deeply to me. When I see patients at local restaurants, church events, school activities, or community gatherings, I want them to know they are more than just a name on a schedule. They are neighbors, friends, and members of the same community I proudly call home.
Of course, being a private practice does not mean sacrificing technology or modern treatment options. Our new 2,900-square-foot office was built from the ground up to provide a comfortable, state-of-the-art dental experience. With eight operatories, modern imaging technology, IV sedation capabilities, dental implant treatment, wisdom tooth removal, cosmetic dentistry, and comprehensive family dental care, we combine advanced dentistry with a personal touch that many patients find refreshing.
At the end of the day, the right dental office is the one where you feel comfortable, respected, and confident in the care you receive. Some patients may prefer a larger corporate model, while others value the relationships and continuity that come with a private practice. At My Burleson Dentist, we believe great dentistry starts with trust. We believe patients deserve honest communication, personalized recommendations, and a dentist who takes the time to listen.
If you’re looking for a locally owned dental office in Burleson where relationships still matter, we’d be honored to welcome you to our practice. We look forward to serving you and your family for many years to come.
